Candor Electric's extensive portfolio of public-sector educational work throughout Chicago includes the Esmond Elementary School Annex, a Public Building Commission of Chicago project that expanded and modernized the learning environment for students in Chicago's Morgan Park community.
Located at 1865 W. Montvale Avenue, the project involved construction of a new two-story, approximately 20,000-square-foot annex designed to replace a deteriorating stand-alone modular building and provide Esmond students and faculty with permanent, modern educational spaces.
Working as part of the project team led by general contractor F.H. Paschen, Candor Electric contributed the electrical expertise and infrastructure necessary to support a highly functional educational facility designed for the evolving needs of Chicago Public Schools.
The new annex significantly expanded the resources available to Esmond Elementary students. The facility incorporates a standard classroom, computer lab, science lab, art room with storage, library, kitchen and dining areas, administrative space, restrooms, an elevator, storage and other building-support spaces.
Improvements extended beyond the new building. The overall project included renovations to the parking lot, stormwater management infrastructure, an outdoor playground, community garden and turf field, along with roof replacement and exterior-envelope repairs to the existing school.
Together, these improvements transformed the campus while replacing aging facilities with spaces designed to better support teaching, technology, collaboration and hands-on learning.
